After 200,000 years of hate and violence, a nightmare is thrust upon mankind in one precise moment of creation…a singularity whose violent birth is protracted in time by a sustained vibration. The newborn amorphous entity thrives on the resonance of every spoken word and quickly learns that the darkest words -- those cried out by victims of domestic violence or murder, are the most nutritious. To flourish, the entity searches for humans who possess the ability to synch with its electrical resonance and do its murderous bidding. Joseph Burks is a psychopath who possesses that ability
THEN: at Joseph's first kill scene, the resonance discovers the vibration of a curious bystander: thirteen-year-old Molly Harmon. Sensing that Molly possesses both the ability to synch with its dark energy and serve as a vessel for cast-off electrical waste, the resonance appears to Molly in the shape of a piece of ribbon candy. Intrigued, Molly naively synchs with the entity and discovers the price of her decision: accelerated aging, and ultimately, she fears -- early death.
NOW: Molly is a bent and shuffling woman whose appearance belies the fact that she is twenty-eight years old. Molly can only watch helplessly as her nightmare grows more powerful and Joseph younger with each slice of his knife blade. And although the resonance constantly assures Molly that it would never let her die…Molly sees things otherwise and realizes that her very survival depends on escaping the murderous Joseph and the dark entity she knows as the Resonance.
