Pretty Ruth Gillard had returned to Mariner's Meed with a heavy heart. Her handsome cousin's inexplicable and fatal accident had brought her beloved grandfather to grievous illness and an air of menace to the once-joyous manor on the wind-swept Cornwall cliffs.
