It was quite a shock - a delightful shock - to see herself in the mirror after Uncle Duncan and Aunt Cassy had equipped her for her new life in London. There she was, a stely creature in hyacinth blue gauze over satin, with a spangled scarf and borrowed pearls. When Mr Chard came into the room he made it quite obvious that he was impressed... very impressed.

But... she wasn't altogether sure she wanted to impress Mr Chard, in spite of the fact that he was so handsome. Mr Chard was a very unusual young man... indeed sometimes Mr Chard appeared to be two young men...
