Pat and Jean Abbott get mixed up in murder in New York City as Pat prepares to leave for the European theater during the early days of World War II.
"I was alone with a KILLER!”
“Someone was coming down the back stairs. Fast! I must step back in the closet. No, there wasn't time. Whoever was moving through the darkness would hear me. I stood still. Then something rushed at me out of the shadows…”
Pat and Jean Abbott were honeymooning in New York when they met Ellen Bland and some of her expatriate friends. They were a sly, sophisticated lot torn by secret desires that brought tragedy into their midst.
It began with the death of Anna Forbes, a maid whose curiosity sent her blundering into a murder tryst. And the killer, having tasted the wine of death, wanted more as Jean Abbott learned when she came to the Bland home of clues and met the murderer instead!
