Dr Luke Preston, a confirmed and contented bachelor, thought himself too cool-headed ever to fall in love, but then Colin Mossman appeared and charmed his way into the life of Kate Abbott, Luke's receptionist. Kate was a widow with a small daughter, Jenny, who taking a sudden dislike to Colin and distrusting even Kate, ran away from home. Luke tried to help Kate solve her problems and then she began to realize that she had to choose between Colin and Jenny, and perhaps even Luke himself, before happiness was hers.
