To the casual observer, the women of Chantry Park seem very fortunate. With their large houses, their good works and safe, ordered existences, what did they know of the trials and disappointments that other people face. More than you might think. As, each week, the ladies of the Red Cross sewing circle meet to assemble a patchwork quilt it becomes plain that each has her own worries. But overriding all these is the threatened return to their midst of the lovely Amanda, a man-eating divorcee who caught the eye - and maybe the heart - of more than one married man in the district while she lived there.
