Published in 1986, it was Patrick White''s last completed novel, and was presented as if White had edited the memoirs of an ageing [fictional] actor. Memoirs presents the eccentric, fantastical recollections of Alex Xenophon Demirjian Gray. Patrick White is presented as her friend and executor, and is often the target of her scorn. Witty and affecting, Memoirs reveals another side of White''s fiction even as it echoes many of the themes running through his work.
