I originally wrote "The Littlest Pumpkin" as a follow-up to a poem I wrote for my grandson called "Farmer Franklin." My grandson was planting pumpkin seeds for a school project and I wanted to write something for him to help explain the growing process. "The Littlest Pumpkin" is a story about a little pumpkin that had not grown as big as the other pumpkins in the pumpkin patch. The ultimate reward for the pumpkins was to be taken to the annual fall festival to be sold for Halloween Jack-O-Lanterns. "The Littlest Pumpkin" wasn't big enough, according to the other pumpkins, but Farmer Franklin decided to give him a chance at being purchased.
