This is a story about Arthur West and his experiences as a prisoner of war in a place called Fort Defiance. The Fort has a moat, a drawbridge and eight well-armed soldiers.
What's unusual is that the war in question is the Civil War, which ended some three decades before Arthur was captured.
Arthur's captor, Colonel Hetherhill, has never surrendered and has gone unnoticed only because of the remoteness of Fort Defiance.
This short novel describes Arthur's attempts to regain his freedom.
