The Lady Who Never Was — Peter Chambers

Wealthy Edith Forster summoned Mark Preston and asked him to check on her husband's business movements. The assignment seemed routine, but things took quite a different turn when Forster was brutally murdered. Preston couldn't explain his presence close to the crime without the consent of his client, and she denied all knowledge of him. The Assistant District Attorney wanted someone charged, and Preston seemed to fit the bill, unless he could come up with a better alternative - and fast.
