John Buchan, the novelist, the politician, the historian, was appointed Governor General of Canada in 1935. He created memorable characters of fiction, such as Dickson McCunn, Richard Hannay and Sir Edward Leithen, but also wrote amazing volumes on the history of England and its colonies.
