The Keepers of the Lights — Sallie Cochren

Bill has the most important and most taken for granted job in the village. As a keeper of the light, he must make sure to never let the fire in his lamps go out. The creatures are watching, waiting for their chance to escape into the village and terrorize the humans. Living off of the human's fears, the creatures can get by but nothing can satisfy them like making a kill. When a careless act by one of the keepers gives them their chance, the whole village will be in danger. Will any of the creatures escape the woods and will the humans stand a chance against such evil creatures of the night? (Note: This is a short story.)
