Once a top officer in the secret service, Ted Anders has been cut loose - but not entirely freed - by his superiors. They take a practical view: Anders is a dangerous man, but entirely too valuable to lose. Their solution is to set him up as proprietor of London's agreeably seedy Kama Sutra... a nightclub where he can always be reached.
When Vasili Burinski, a top Soviet assassin, dares to eliminate a political enemy on Western soil, the head of MI6 gives the nod to the sort of operation Anders specializes in - one in which all the risks are his alone.
Though skeptical about various loose ends, Anders agrees to cross the Berlin Wall in search of the killer. But events go awry; against their will and in spite of their training, Anders and Burinski form an unusual relationship - one that will come back to haunt them.
