Jess Burdett was just a solitary buffalo hunter, en route to join a group of others in the Indian country south of the Arkansas. The killing of the buffalo was prohibited by treaty, and that meant danger enough. But the appearance of attractive Edith Clinger, alone and badly beaten by a brutal husband, spelled further trouble for Burdett.

Yet he couldn't just leave her alone, to be another victim of the Comanches. Her angry husband was sure to follow, and he did. And later at Adobe Walls, so did the Comanches!
