When Martha Parnham inherited the once opulent Kessler mansion in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains she became heiress to much more than a million-dollar estate. As the renovation of the long and deliberately unoccupied house proceeds, Martha comes upon the perversely slashed portraits of the long-dead Kesslers, a couple whose burning love had turned to savage murder.
