AN OMINOUS PROPHECY!
Although the profession of a lady detective is not the most glamorous in the world, Katharine Smith, an attractive redhead in her early twenties, had no complaints. She could walk through the streets of Winner, Nevada, at any hour of the day or night without concern for her personal safety; her job was interesting, occasionally exciting and rewarding, some day she hoped to marry an ambitious young police lieutenant in the meantime, a popular singer who was idolized by almost every woman in the country was flattering her by showering attention on her.
The receipt of a golden heel in Christmas wrappings changed all that. For the heel carried a warning, and the ominous prophecy was fulfilled a few days later when singer Ken Rhine's body was found in a gorge. Since it was not Ken whom she loved, Katharine was mystified by the manner in which she had been framed for his death and felt she had to solve the mystery in order to be exonerated.
