Conner and his family settled in Bindweed, hoping to start over. When things go badly wrong, Conner escapes. Misfortune leads him across the sea, to the corrupt island country of Vitavris. There he joins the Guard of Vitavris, a group trying to protect the people of the island. The guard aren't as they seem, but neither is anything in the village of Vris. The Fisher of Vris is a short story.
