The Enchanted Hawk — Janet Quinn

Brylyn, of the Hawk Clan, has been fascinated for years by the feonds who live at the bottom of her mountain. As a child she rescued Thom McGarrety from drowning and has watched his grown into a man, a man she would love to give her heart to, but knows that is not possible. Instead, she dances outside his tower window as a red hawk, knowing he can't keeps his gaze off of her.

Then strangers enter the valley and her curiosity overtakes her better sense and she joins the caravan in human form. She must know who is entering the castle and why.

Brylyn meets Thom but is unable to tell him who she is for fear that he will hate her for being a shape-shifter, a member of the race his ancestors drove to the top of the mountain. While watching him and the visitors, she discovers that those who arrived with hands outstretched are really there to take Thom's family's land and wealth and destroy his family.
