The Dream Hunt and Other Tales is Catherine McGuire's first collection of short fiction featuring science fiction stories taking place in a resource-depleted future. It is a future peopled with new societies that took shape after the end of the age of fossil fuels -- a deindustrial age.
As McGuire writes in the introduction:
“Here you will find young women who are asking themselves how they fit in their society, and suspecting it's not where the elders want them to be. You will find older women who see the patterns and wonder if it has to be so. You will see different perspectives on the re-localization of our society; as fossil fuels become unavailable, our world will become smaller, and that will have both benefits and drawbacks. You'll find young people willing to look where their elders say there is nothing to see. And often, they discover that love helps smooth the bumps, whatever they are. And I hope you will see that human nature is amazingly resilient and recognizable through time. We will always have fear; we will always have courage. And we will never avoid conflict, both inner and outer.”
“McGuire has established herself as a distinguished author of post-collapse fiction, whose work has unfailingly been a high point of Founders House Publishing's After Oil anthology series. Her tales shine for their absorbing premises, telling conflicts and genuine pathos.” -- Frank Kaminski, Mud City Press
“Catherine McGuire is one of the rising stars of deindustrial SF and this new collection showcases some of her best work. Not to be missed!” -- John Michael Greer, author of Star's Reach and The Weird of Hali
