THE DAY OF THE CUR (Trilogy) is an intriguing and unconventional adventure story that concentrates on the psychological rather than the actual. Based largely on real-life events (the illegal African diamond trade and the botched assassination attempt on the Premier of China in 1983) blends grippping symbolism with penetrating drama to give a compelling work rich in both satire and pathos. The story spans several continents and opens unforgettably in the vibrant corners of exotic East Africa. Readers are drawn in from the very first chapter when the narrator, a certain Mr. Weston, seemingly discovers he has been cheated out of his life savings. He thereafter feels betrayed and disillusioned after accepting a new assigment from his employer. Only the Swami and the enigmatic Mr. Eks hold the pieces to the puzzle. The story is open to widely different imterpretations, but what is certain is that the novel exerts a chilly and lasting influence over the reader's imagination.
