"The Corpulent Chiropteran" by Nell Du Vall is a short, delightful read. Wally the butcher is a bachelor on the lookout for that one girl who will make him and his mum happy. But, being a hard working man and a great dancer are not the only things that women are looking for in men. Anyway, Wally ends up in a dilemma between picking up the plain and not-such-a-great-dancer Bernice and the magnetic, mysterious and sensuous Estrella. Are these women really who they claim to be? Is he actually turning into a vampire after his Saturday night trysts? If so, what will satisfy his blood lust? Can he fly like a bat? Will he ever be able to live a normal life? Is he destined to live in fear of the woman who made him a reluctant vampire?
*It is amazing to know what a good writer can do with 4-5 characters and just a few pages to write an interesting novella. "The Corpulent Chiropteran" by Nell Du Vall is a good read during the 15 minutes you have while waiting for something or someone. With twists within the story, the author has managed to weave a nice story around the passion of the season - Vampires. Each character is fleshed out well and the story evolves quickly from a mundane boy meets girl saga to something which the reader would never have expected. Wally is pretty endearing and makes a likeable protagonist with whom one ends up feeling a kind of kinship.
