One winter in Milan
Harriet Piers, young, attractive and rich, came to Milan to stay for a while alone, to recover from the crack-up of her brittle marriage. In the gay, elegant society of that beautiful city she met Carlo Dalverio. To him, she was another woman to woo, another conquest to add to the many he had made in the past. To her, he was a marvelous lover who swept her into transports she had never known or dreamed of.
But they fell in love. And Carlo, married and with two children, faced the solid fact that in his country marriages are not to be broken, that an affair is a game only and must not dislocate the stability of the family. Harriet and Carlo faced a dilemma: by falling in love had they made love impossible?
