It is often said that God never sleeps, but suppose that isn't true. In The Committee, God naps daily for two hours, which is two years earth time. During his absence, he convenes a committee of five spirits to watch over two of his children, Sydnee King and Georgette Peterson.
The Committee is made up of: Mavis, a stripper turned social worker; Clay, a garbage man; Rachel, a preacher's wife; Brett, a corporate wonder boy and Tyrell, a drug dealer turned restaurateur. They find themselves dealing with issues they were unable to resolve while they were alive.
Sydnee, a young divorcee with two kids is unlucky in love, when she finally meets the man who she thinks can break her bad streak, she discovers that he isn't the loving man who he claims to be. Georgette, George for short, finally finds true love after leaving an awful marriage, but her happiness is intermittent after she is diagnosed with breast cancer.
