Armed with his new copy of The Complete and Total Book of All the Secret Codes That Have Ever Been Devised and That Ever Will Be Devised, Dinky Lakewood and his friends are in business! The kids figure there will be plenty of customers for their Secret Code Service in Washington, D.C., where they live. After all, this is the spy capital of the world!
Their first customer is a bit of a disappointment. Spry old Emma Temple just wants her diary put into code so that her snoopy sister can't find out her latest soap-opera crushes. Their second, bumbling Boris the Bad Bulgarian, isn't a very good spy. (He can't even decode WKH VKLS VDLOV DW GDZQ LQ VWDQWRQ SDUN*), but at least he's the real thing -- hat and all!
But when Mr. Willowbrook of the State Department walks through the door, the kids are shaking in their boots. It looks like they've gotten themselves involved in some serious spy stuff -- the kind of international intrigue you only read about in books!
