Sara had been happy back home in Boston. She fit in -- she had friends and knew the ropes at school. Then her family moved to Hawaii for five months.

Her parents think she'll enjoy it, that it will broaden her. She doesn't and it won't. The kids at school aren't nice to her, she doesn't know anyone except her dopey brother, and she misses her friends.

But there are a few good things about being away. One is making the cassette tapes that she sends to her old classmates to keep in touch. And another is Broccoli, the wild cat she and her brother discover. Taking care of Broccoli leads Sara to a new friend, and a whole new look at Hawaii, her brother, and herself.
