This record of the Arts Theatre in the heart of London's West End, the most distinguished club theatre of its time, is written by two drama critics long familiar with its work. Wendy Trewin, among much else, is author of All on Stage, the detailed narrative of Charles Wyndham and the Alberys. Her Cornish husband, J. C. Trewin, doyen of practising London drama critics and a former literary editor of The Observer, wrote some fifty books, including biographies of Macready, Frank Benson and Peter Brook. He received an OBE in 1981, and was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
