The Apocalypse Tour — Kurt Kasner

For his summer vacation, a mild-mannered elementary school teacher has undertaken a solo motorcycle tour around the Western United States. One fateful night, while camping in a remote California desert location, he spots a strange light moving erratically across the overcast sky in his direction. As he watches, a brightly-glowing object descends from the clouds, coming to earth on the far side of a nearby sand dune. Armed only with a camera and tripod, the cyclist sets out to investigate. What he discovers amid the dunes will set in motion a chain reaction of bizarre, nightmarish, and deadly events. Both nature and man will conspire to exterminate the hapless traveler, and an implausible pursuit will culminate in a life-or-death confrontation -- the ramifications of which will be felt decades later.
