Taking Shelter — Jessica Anderson

A group of characters are watched over by an elderly godmother figure. Beth takes up with Bohemian Marco by whom she has a baby and Marco's mother then becomes a central figure in the novel. All the characters finally come under the roof of Juliet the godmother.
