Taken — Elaine Arthur

Meriani was left safely behind by her friends in the coastal city of Ubol, in the island of Janei, by her friends as they sail forward, seeking a new adventure in Yendar. Or, at least, she should have been safe. One careless mistake and Meriani now finds herself taken by unscrupulous Roadmen lurking Ubol. When the Captain of the Guard's niece is also taken, the Roadmen are quick to leave the city and cross the Waters in search of a safer place to sell their merchandise. Now, alone and without anyone to look after her, Meriani must gather her wits about her and decide to either accept her fate or fight against it.
