Taiso — Peter G. Bailey

Kumi Takura, acclaimed Taiso in the shoguns sixteenth century samurai army, returns home after a long absence to find his sick father is about to lose his province for non-payment of tax dues. Discovering the taxes have been collected and converted by his fathers unscrupulous chancellor Takura dispenses quick justice only to find settling one dispute leads to others until he finds himself fighting a full scale war to achieve justice, but his actions lead his sweetheart and a suspicious shogun to suspect his motives.
