Jeanette just wanted to get away from it all. A six-day hike across the mountains with her best friend Neil and his girlfriend Samma sounded like heaven. But when Dwayne, the football hunk, and then Bill, her long-lost friend, invite themselves along as unwanted rivals for her affection, heaven becomes purgatory.

The adventure really turns hellish when all five are caught in a flash flood--and Jeanette begins to suspect that one of her friends hides a deadly past.

Bill looked down at the two of us with a contemptuous sneer on his face. Then he looked up and lunged for the handhold, leaping off his perch to claw at it.

He missed it; he missed it left. His hand pawed madly at the rock, desperately clutching for a hold, a finger grip, anything! Bill slowly teetered onto one foot, leaning out of balance and windmilling his other arm.

Then in an instant, he was falling. He fell into Dwayne, peeling him back from the face in slow motion. I stared, too stunned to move. Both bodies were dropping right toward me. I was about to be creamed!
