Surrender by the Sea — Patti Dunaway

Determined never to let anyone get close enough to hurt her again, young Marty Brown retreats into a private world far from her family and friends. She believes that nothing could compare with what she and David once had, and rudely refuses the attentions of James, a single attractive policeman who lives nearby. Marty finds it ironic that James encourages her to join his Christian fellowship group, when she once led many church groups as a pastor's wife. Because she blames David's congregation for him untimely death, Marty has no interest in meeting more Christians. Her anger towards God is turned inward, leaving her numb and bitter.

When she discovers teenage runaway Cissy injured on the beach, Marty finally begins to emerge from her shell. Just as her life is beginning to makes sense to her, danger threatens.
