The intern already had three counts against him: an abandoned baby, a possible epidemic, criminal negligence . . . and now he had to reveal himself or face a fourth â€" manslaughter.
Both interns were guilty.
Each roommate had to protect a secret which could cost him his career. Each man was the unwitting ally of the other. One had enticed a nurse to leave her post of duty, the other had deposited an infected infant in the hospital nursery during her absence.
It was an ironic complicity, unknown to each. Either one could face a charge which would ruin his life.
