When her family moves into the old Roddenberry place in the Florida backwoods, ten-year-old Birdie Boyer looks forward to happy times. Her father says they'll raise sugarcane, oranges, and even a crop of strawberries -- and Birdie can't wait to be a "strawberry girl."

But after their new neighbors, the Slaters, pay them a visit, Birdie senses trouble ahead. It's not easy fighting the heat, drought, and cold spells to raise Florida strawberries. When your neighbors are determined to start a feud, is it impossible?
