SPOT, SPELL AND TELL was written to assist parents in helping their children get the ultimate enjoyment out of simple poems while at the same time, increasing their comprehension skills. The approach is simple; parents read the poems with their children and look at the illustrations. The children SPOT certain objects in the illustrations from the group of words found below each poem, then SPELL the words that go with the objects. The parents then TELL the children if they are correct. The poems in SPOT, SPELL AND TELL were composed by Thomas Swan, a 20-year veteran prosecutor in the Allegheny County District Attorneys Office whose lifelong love of poetry inspired him to reach out to younger poetry fans. The book is beautifully illustrated by Holly Angelhoff, an accomplished artist and educator in the Pine-Richland School District outside of Pittsburgh. A portion of the proceeds from the book will be donated to assist autistic children and it is expected that this work will be the first in a series of similar books.
