Passion, betrayal, and honor. But can Belle's heart survive the cruel blows of Life?
A - I wanted to show a woman's strong character, how she bends under Life's troubles but never breaks. Though small in stature, Belle is as resistant to the fierce winds of Life's changes as the willow tree. I grew up in the South. Contrary to what so many believe, most people who lived here during the years leading up to the Civil War were not large plantation owners. Instead, the majority were poor dirt farmers scratching out a hand-to-mouth existence. Those farmers, if they owned any slaves at all, owned only one or two. Slavery was such an evil during this era of history. I wanted to put faces on some of the great costs in human lives and suffering that it caused so many, no matter the color of their skin.
