When John Sabourin is sent to monitor the fate of a nuclear submarine trapped in the Arctic ice, he envisions a quiet, isolated leave of absence from the chaos of "normal" life. What he encounters is madness on ice, complete with explosions, street brawls, vegetarian wolves, church burning, and a visit by a befuddled polar bear.
