Skeleton Hill — Peter Lovesey

On Landsdown Hill, near Bath, a battle between Roundheads and Cavaliers that took place over 350 years ago is annually reenacted. Two of the reenactors discover a headless skeleton, and soon after, one of them goes missing and is later found murdered. The hill becomes the setting for one of the most puzzling cases that has ever confronted Detective Superintendent Peter Diamond, involving golf, horseracing, English Civil War reenactment, and even the Cyrillic alphabet.
