U.S. Marshall Nathan Wolf is newly married and has only been on the job in southeast Kansas for a few months before he is faced with a seemingly ordinary case of cattle rustling. But as he digs into the case, he uncovers a twenty-year-old murder. If that was not enough, along the way, he also discovers a kidnapping, extortion, embezzlement, gang terror from the hands of the Ku Klux Klan, and a few more surprises. Marshall Wolf personally experiences why the state was called "bloody Kansas" during and following the Civil War. Author James Duermeyer spins a story that Western lovers and lovers of historical fiction will find exciting. Duermeyer's historical fiction shows the result of a good deal of research and an ability to weave a riveting fictional adventure into the history of our country. Singing Creek is a sequel to Duermeyer's Trail of the Outlaw, where Nathan Wolf was introduced as a sheriff in the upper Midwest. Wolf has now become a U.S. Marshall, moved to Kansas, and married Claire May Summers, a young, spirited woman he met in Iowa. A great cast of characters springs from the book's pages, including good, solid, hard working blacks and whites, and a group of purely evil outlaws. This is a great fun read that you will not want to put down until the end.
