Sir Roland Chatterton, a wealthy invalid, is found shot. The coroner's jury has given a verdict of suicide - but a man who has won the confidence of Sir Roland's doctor has been defrauding his employer for many months, with the connivance of his fiancee; the doctor's secretary - and there is strong suspicion that he knows more about the death than the spoken evidence indicates.
