When an elderly nun is raped and murdered at a drop-in centre for drug addicts, the police quickly decide it's a burglary gone wrong. But then television director Bel Carson sees pictures of the body, and becomes convinced that this was a ritualistic murder, carried out by a sadistic and calculating killer.
Not long after, Bel rescues a woman who has almost been strangled by an unknown assailant in the woods near Bel's home. The victim is terrified of going to the police and disappears without leaving her name. Bel has a gut feeling the attack is linked to the murder of the nun, but she can't convince the officer in charge that there's a connection.
Then the murderer strikes closer to home, and Bel determines to track him down. She has nothing to go on except some indistinct video images, but as the picture becomes clearer, she realises she is on the trail of a serial rapist who stalks his victims day and night, taunting them with his power, menacing them, until he finally pounces. As she closes in on the attacker, Bel senses that someone is spying on her home. And in a final, terrifying twist, she finds herself caught in the killer's trap - with no way out.
