Orphaned cousins Rosanne and Alda Smith grow up together as sisters at Twin Mansions, an estate bequeathed to Alda on the death of her parents. Rosanne is a shrinking violet and her childhood is spent in vivacious Alda's shadow until, finally, Alda maries Michael Rowen and moves away.
Rosanne blossoms. Then tragedy strikes. Michael is dead in a freak car accident and Alda is back, encumbered with a bizarre entourage of hangers-on.
