Escaping from the painful memories of her father's recent death, Robin North accepts a job a housekeeper to moody, magnetic Alex Ridley, a youngish widower with three children and a huge ranch in Montana. Although Robin soon finds herself falling in love with Alex, she is once again trapped by painful memories. These memories go back five years to the time when Alex's beautiful wife was killed in a bizarre riding mishap.

The death was ruled to be accidental ? but it has left a web of mystery and unhappiness at the ranch. And as Robin tries to learn what really happened and why, she becomes enmeshed in a veil of evil.
