As the old man sketched a portrait of the young American, he convinced him to go to Cologne for carnival time. From the moment Andrew arrived, small things began to go wrong. Beneath the surface of the gay, colorful city lay an indefinable threat.

Andrew found lodging in the exclusive Lindwurm castle, where a beautiful young woman, Bettina von Alten--whom he had met in Cologne--was also a guest.
