"Back of the Moon" was the name that Lauren Gardner had given to her Aunt Serena's home in Moon Bay, New Zealand. But after her aunt had quarreled with her father and her stepmother, Lauren had never been asked to return. Now, years later, Lauren was no longer the little girl who had loved Back to the Moon, but a nineteen-year-old beauty whose aunt had died and left the house to her. And so she returned to her beloved Moon Bay with its nearby Seabird Island for the first time in many years.
Lauren found that Seabird Island had a new owner--a young and handsome American named Scott Hayley. At first, she resented Scott's ownership of her island, but eventually her resentment turned to warm friendship and thoughts of romance.
Both Lauren and Scott were intensely concerned about the wildlife living on the land, and when another American, Cliff Masterton, bought neighboring Wainwright's Island and threatened to destroy its wildlife with his copper-mining plans, they were determined to do their best to stop him. But Lauren had another problem--the competition that Masterton's beautiful daughter, Gwen, was giving her where Scott was concerned.
