Raw Talent is the story of Carlos Alvarez, a young Hispanic man who becomes a world-class golfer, and the struggles he must overcome just to demonstrate that gift. Carlos Alvarez might have been a statistic on the side of failure even with his God-given inner-strength and a friend like Pete Sanchez. For one thing, the nurturing of genius is no more complex than that of the highly-gifted athlete. It is far easier to develop either when those attributes are recognized early on, before the raw-talent has been diluted. While thirteen is a normal age for beginning golfers, Carlos had other things going on; one of them the specter of an alcoholic father. Yet Pete had recognized, in Carlos, the sparkle of pure joy and endless determination from the first day they met.
