Many young boys have a dog as their constant companion. Eleven-year-old Sterling North has a raccoon named Rascal. Rascal and Sterling do everything together -- from winning a pie-eating contest to fishing for trout in the Wisconsin forests.
It would have been perfect -- if only Rascal weren't so clever. The day comes when Rascal is too smart for his own good. Sterling must make a difficult choice -- either cage his beloved raccoon or take him away and let him go free.
