It was in the Kentish Isle of Sheppey that the young Burbages, soon after they were married, bought their farm, 'Doggetts'. After the negative frenzy of war, the healing joy of the country and the arrival of a baby daughter, Madeleine, made up for the endless labor of the prospering farm. They took on an extra hand, Tom Small, who quickly grew devoted to the baby, but his birthday gift of a pony, 'Prince Albert', unwittingly almost brought disaster to the Burbage's idyllic life. The real value of loyalty and honesty is confirmed as the family is re-established.
