Press and Rachel have set the date, at last. Just as he and the family begin to sigh with relief, someone murders a girl on his beach. She becomes a Jane Doe and before they can catch their breath, Press and Trace are called to another murder scene. Another Jane Doe! A young woman, Specialist Samantha Hartley, comes to see Press about her best friend, who has been missing since Thanksgiving Day and things start to break. She's a pain in his side, but she refuses to stand back and just let him do his job, without knowing what is going on. Press isn't going to let anything happen to her, if he has to call her commanding officer and get her leave cancelled. Gladys Williams, the Chief Coroner at the Tidewater Branch of the State Coroner's Office, is determined to find out who these victims are, even if she has to raise some hell. Press is determined to find out why they were murdered and who did it. He's not worried about hell anymore. Press has already been there and survived. When the third victim is found, Press is beginning to wonder if they're going to solve this case in time for his wedding date of Christmas Day. If not, he may be the next victim--of a pissed-0off FBI very Special Agent! And then there is Steffi and her little surprise. At least the dog isn't getting into any trouble.
