In 1962, Royal Marine Dacre A J is sent to The Depot RM at Deal. With 22 years' experience as a Commando, his task is to motivate and retrain a handful of Marines in order to enter a gruelling competition which requires them to be fit in a way that only Marine Commandos can be. Meanwhile, the Sultan of Brunei flies into the UK for urgent talks with the Government about the increasing threat from neighbouring Indonesia. A plot by political forces is hatched to assassinate the Sultan and his only son, who is training with the Royal Marines. Failure to prevent the murders is not an option. The political consequences in the Far East would be catastrophic; but is this a plot that can be uncovered, and stopped, in time?
